Yoga From Home: Where do I Start?

One of the most common questions I'm asked by students is, "What can I do from home?" Without hesitation my answer is always one of two things:

First Option: Do what you love. Whatever will get you onto your mat, that's what you should do. So, think of a posture that you love, and DO THAT! Another option is to come into Child's Pose. Or Downward Dog. Or Savasana! The restorative benefits of a short Savasana cannot be overstated.

Second Option: Sun Salutations, specifically, Sun Salutation A. There are many different reasons to use Sun Salutations as the foundation for a home practice. First: in and of itself they are a "workout." This sequence of postures lengthens and strengthens all of the muscles in the body, takes the major joints through their full range of motion, enhances cardiovascular stamina through deep nostril breathing, and most of all trains the mind, body, and breath to move in synchronicity. Once the sequence has been memorized, going through it will bring much pleasure to your body, mind, and spirit! Print off the attached PDF and use it as a cheat sheet until you know the sequence by heart.
